Freediving in Tulum

Amazing freediving course :) My freediving experience with la casa surya was amazing :) The course is structured really nicely, you'll get access to many learning videos and Sabrina is such a good teacher. Even though I had some problems equalizing on the first day going down, Sabrina guided me so that I managed to overcome my limitations in a safe way. Overall it was a great experience that I can recommend to everyone who wants to freedive. Thank you Sabrina!

Freediving in magical cenotes! For years, I had been dreaming about Freediving. I thought it would be a perfect practice which would combine nicely my love for the underwater world, my personal practice of yoga and meditation. In 2014, I did a course in Thailand which ended up being slightly traumatic and definitely frustrating as I could not equalize the pressure in my ears and had to quit the course. 8 years later, I am so grateful to have contacted Sabrina of Casa Surya. From the beginning of our communication, Sabrina was the most attentive and supportive guide offering me tips and exercises to understand better the mechanisms of equalization. I had already gained some confidence before starting our first in person Freediving day in Tulum. We went to two very unique cenotes. In the morning, we worked more on technical training with free immersion on the line. Sabrina helped me to find more ease with the equalization and gave me a lot of great pointers to help my very poor duck dive technique. Even if there was a lot to integrate, I never felt overwhelmed and could enjoy every moment. We had a short but helpful yoga session at her studio before going to the water which, I believe, helped setting the tone for the day. We were only two students with different levels but as we alternated the practice while the other was resting, it felt more or less like a one on one instruction. We had a very comfortable lunch break back at Casa Surya studio with a pretty yummy healthy meal. Then, the afternoon was more of a fun dive session in an extremely beautiful cenote where the mangroves offer a great habitat for a diverse fauna. Still, Sabrina kept giving us helpful pointers while taking videos of our dives in idyllic spots. It was truly magical and inspiring. After this discovery day, I decided to take the level 1 course. It is offered as 5 half days instead of 2 (sometimes 3 days) advertised by other companies. I know that I personally can learn and integrate better at a slow pace. I am looking forward to be in the magical cenotes again soon. I definitely recommend Casa Surya for whoever wants to experience Freediving!

Transformative After doing private training with Sabrina in Cenote Angelita in November of 2019, I was looking forward to our Cenotes Adventures Freediving retreat scheduled for April of 2020. Once the pandemic and the lockdown became official here in New York City, I realized that I would not be free-diving any time soon. I started doing dry training sessions with Sabrina on Zoom, initially to work on my breathing but, before I knew it, she had me doing squats. Sabrina was instrumental in helping me stay healthy both physically and mentally during such a strenuous time. I later transitioned my training to the pool. Ultimately, I returned to free-dive with Sabrina in Cenote Angelita, where my preparation paid off. In an activity that requires both skill and self-acceptance, Sabrina knew how to guide me to stay internally focused and not get distracted by both extraneous stimuli and internal loops of fear and self-judgement. Sabrina knew how to not only lead me to greater depths than I thought I was ready for, but also to help me take the time to rest before I realized I needed to. Sabrina remained finely attuned to help integrate both the physical and mental aspects that are so crucial for a successful and enjoyable free-dive. Freediving course - Casa Surya Je n'aurais pas pu rêver mieux pour mes premiers pas en apnée ! Sabrina est une instructrice exceptionnelle, passionnée et patiente. Elle s'adapte à chacun et propose des exercices selon nos capacités et notre évolution. Je me suis sentie à l'aise durant toute la formation. Le fait de le faire sur 5 jours est parfait, on a le temps d'emmagasiner toutes les informations et de s'entrainer entre les cours. Merci encore Sabrina pour cette merveilleuse expérience ! :)

Fantastic freediving course with Sabrina I joined the Wave 1 freediving course in La Casa Surya following a recommendation from a friend (diving instructor) who lives in Tulum. I am so glad I listened to her ! This was awesome ! I already did a freediving certification 3 years ago in another part of the world with a different freediving system. But This course with Sabrina was so much better for me ! I loved everything in the course ! Having the course in 5 days is great because it gives time to understand, practice, and absorb all the knowledge Sabrina has been fantastic. She takes the time to answer all questions. We were 2 in the course, with different experiences in freediving (both doing Wave 1), and she adjusted perfectly to help both of us to improve and overcome our own barriers. She also made sure we actually have fun in the learning and discovery process. I liked the fact that the practical part of first 2 days (lap 1) is focused on static and dynamic bi fins. Plus doing the dynamic in a natural cenote was amazing, so much better than in a pool. Those first 2 days help to relax and feel good about the whole process, with no pressure :-D. The relaxation exercises in the yoga studio were very helpful and I am going to continue those exercises back home. The freediving equipment we used was excellent The 2 other cenotes we went to for the feediving sessions 3, 4 and 5 were also beautiful and I can't imagine a better place to practice ! Sabrina helped me to find solutions to progress, even if that meant thinking outside the box. I have been so thankful ! Another positive aspect to the molchanovs system is that the training doesn't have to end with the course. I learned exercises that I can continue at home, and the online platform provides new exercises published on a regular basis ! Sabrina also took fantastic photos and videos that she sent after the course ! Just do it! Sign up whether it's for a full course or an introduction day. The cenote where she goes for those discovery days is amazing. I can't wait to go back and continue the next stages of my learning (and certification) with Sabrina

Freedive discovery to Molchanov Wave 1 ✨What an amazing, transformative week it has been! ✨ My heart is full with joy ❤️ I first met Sabrina Meyer several years back when I took a one day freediving discovery course with her at La Casa Surya where I learned to face my fears and start to conquer my fear of swimming. I immediately fell in love with freediving, and although I had several opportunities to take a freediving course at other locations - Something was telling me, wait until you can take the course with Sabrina. So a few years and one pandemic later... And OMG I am so happy I waited 😁 For anyone wanting to experience freediving for the first time, get your certificate, or perfect your technique and improve your dives, I wholeheartedly recommend her as an instructor. Small groups, with patient instruction and heavy focus on perfecting technique before moving on to more difficult dives. Soo happy to be part of the Molchanovs diving system, and proud to report the I am now wave 1 certified.

Unser bestes Tulum-Erlebnis :) Wir haben den Tageskurs Freediving bei Sabrina gebucht und waren begeistert! Schon an nur einem Tag haben wir jede Menge gelernt und können nun sicherer und besser tauchen. Der Tag war rundum gelungen und voller schöner Erlebnisse. Sabrina hat uns auch die theoretischen Hintergründe angenehm und professionell vermittelt. Man merkt, dass sie ihre Arbeit von Herzen gern macht :) Die Entdeckungstour in der Cenote war besonders schön. Es hat soviel Spaß gemacht und wir hatten tolle Erlebnisse! Dazu ein leckeres Mittagessen, die lieben Hunde und die Bilder und Videos - ein unvergesslicher Tag. Molchanov Wave 1 Freediving Surya Tulum This course with Sabrina is such a great experience from the informative theory in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere of Casa Surya, excellant training/rental equipment and material, use of the onsite pool for static training and the daily stretches and breathing create the perfect mood for freediving in the magical Cenotes around Tulum. Sabrina is a natural instructor and encourages and advises in equal measure for you to progress at your pace. The emphasis is always on relaxation and personal experience which makes for a rewarding individual progress. I was amazed at how by day 3 and 4 I was so relaxed in the water and applying safety and rescue techniques as part of a team. This was one of the best experiences I had in Mexico and would recommend Sabrina and Freediving Surya without any hesitation. Fantastic Experience JUST DO IT! I just came back from my four day free diving course with Sabrina and it was easily the highlight of my trip. During the course you will not only learn about free diving, but will identify certain personal limitations and learn to push beyond your edge. What I took away from the course is that free diving is about so much more than just diving; it is about learning to relax in circumstances which might initially feel a little uncomfortable for you; it is about body awareness; it is about learning to be in the moment; it is about stepping beyond your comfort zone. Sabrina does an excellent job of not only teaching you about free diving but she also creates a safe and encouraging space for you to explore this marvelous new world. I certainly faced a number of challenges during the course and identified a number of areas where I really need to improve. That said, the experience was incredible. Explore the limits of the human Mind and body! I had an amazing 4 day Freediving experience with Sabrina from Casa Surya. I've always loved to test the limits of the human Mind and body, and the way the 4 day course is layed out is perfect. We went over breathing techniques, stretches, diving methods, safety checks, and with the help and care from Sabrina I was able to reach depths of 20m on my 4th day =] I recommend not rushing freediving with just a 2 day rushed certification, and instead taking the time to learn and adapt correctly, while also having a blast! I learned a lot about not only freediving, but about calming my mind and pushing my limits. I will be back in a couple of months for my next course =] Thank you Sabrina!! -Bert Houston, Tx
